Integrative reflexology involves massaging the feet in a way that uses the four basic theories regarding reflexology.  Reflexology and stimulating the feet to encourage healing and benefiting one's health dates back as far as 5000 B.C.

The four theories are:
  • Structural Theory - gives us the clear understanding of how energy flows to the various organs and glands, by using the skeletal alignment of the bones in the feet.
  • Zone Theory- the feet are divided into zones that correlate with the body.  Discovering that these areas and organ reflexes correspond to potential imbalances in the body.
  • Proprioceptor Theory - the feet and hands have nervous system receptors that communicate with other parts of the body.  Stimulating the feet will awaken the receptors of the feet, reflex points send information to the brain, which then returns to the organ or area of the body indicated.
  • Meridians Theory - uses the basis of acupressure/acupuncture and the relationship between the meridian and the reflex points.  These can be observed in the feet and how our body functions.
Integrative Reflexology takes all four theories and weaves the information together to use a deeper knowledge of how the body is functioning, where the body's defense may be impaired and how the client can focus on strengthening these defenses.  Integrative Reflexology does not use the typical pushing, pulling method but uses a more relaxing, massage type method.
